Denver Broncos quarterback Brandon Allen was able to make the most of his first career start by leading the team to a 24-19 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 9. IT seems even though he had replaced quarterback Joe Flacco, the latter still played an integral part in the win.

The Broncos opted to make the switch under center following the 13-15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton says Allen credited Flacco with doing everything he can to help him get his first career win, via Jon Heath of the Broncos Wire:

“It’s awesome to hear him give the props to Joe for helping him along the way,” wide receiver Courtland Sutton said Sunday. “[Flacco helped] him with the small things that a lot of people probably don’t see that doesn’t show up on the field . . . Joe helped him a lot in the behind the scenes in the meeting rooms and everything. He gave the props to him [and] it’s good to see Brandon have the success he did.”

It is encouraging to see that Flacco has no hard feelings about his benching heading into Week 9. Sutton's comments indicate he had already been taking Allen under his wing throughout the 2019 NFL season.

Flacco's advice certainly paid off for Allen after completing 12-of-20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns in the win against Cleveland. He will be looking to take full advantage of the bye week to continue finding his footing with the starting offense.

Flacco's selflessness and veteran leadership is part of the reason the Broncos made a move to bring him in. Although his time under center was short, his impact can still be felt through Allen's play.
