The Denver Broncos were without Melvin Gordon in Week 13, paving the way for the Javonte Williams show against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team was expecting to have the veteran running back available for Sunday's clash with the Lions, and while he suited up to play, he was dealt another injury blow early on in the first quarter.

Gordon apparently sustained a hand injury on the opening drive of the game, per Adam Schefter, and was initially deemed questionable to return to the field. Well, he returned, and looked better than ever, punching in a goal-line touchdown for the Broncos.

Gordon played in just 42% of the team's snaps in Week 12 before missing the game against the Chiefs altogether as he dealt with an ailing hip and shoulder. You can now add a hand injury to the laundry list of knocks the veteran halfback is dealing with. It's an unfortunate blow for the Broncos' offense, but as Williams showed last week, he's more than capable of handling a big workload if necessary. Fortunately, Gordon's injury proved not to be overly serious, and he was soon back on the field and wreaking havoc.

While Williams is a capable running back as a workhorse rusher, having the tandem of Gordon and Williams at their disposal is what makes Denver's ground game so lethal. It didn't take long for Gordon to prove that upon returning from his brief injury, finding the end zone for six points just moments after getting back onto the field.
