Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib is expected to be placed on the trading block by the team this offseason due to financial constraints. However, the Broncos may have a harder time than expected in finding a trade partner for the veteran cornerback.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold, at least three general managers won’t trade for Talib because they believe the Broncos will simply cut his onerous contract in order to gain cap relief.

Some food for thought but asked three GMs at Senior Bowl if they would trade for Aqib Talib — $12M against cap in '18, $8M against cap in '19 — all three answered “no” and they believed Broncos would release Talib because dead money charge is $1M so why surrender any picks

If the Broncos do cut Talib, he’d be a free agent and would be eligible to pick whichever team he wants to go sign with next. Those three GMs that Legwold talked to appear pretty confident they would be able to convince Talib to sign for them on his preferred terms over other teams if they are willing to simply wait for the Broncos to let him go instead of outright trading for him.

But for teams that aren't quite as confident that Talib would see them as a possible destination and are willing to pay up for him, then acquiring him via trade would still be the way to go.

Even at 32 years of age, there should be a fairly active market for an above-average cornerback like him; a good number of teams could still use an upgrade along the secondary. It only takes one team out of that group that’s needy enough to offer a pick to Denver in exchange for a proven performer like Talib.
