The Denver Broncos are in the midst of searching for their new head football coach after Vic Fangio was fired the day after the season ended. Fangio spent three seasons as the Denver head coach, posting a 19-30 record. That prompted the organization to make a change for the third time in the last five years.

The Broncos have not made the playoffs since 2015, when coach Gary Kubiak led the team to a Super Bowl championship.

According to The Spun's Andrew McCarty, the Broncos will be interviewing one of the top assistant's in the league. Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is set to interview for the head job in Kansas City on Friday. That's 48 hours away from the Chiefs AFC divisional round playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

Denver 9News reporter Mike Klis first broke the news on Twitter.

Over the last handful of years, Bieniemy has been listed as a number of organization's top targets, yet he has not been offered a head coaching position.

Bieniemy began his pro coaching career with the Minnesota Vikings from 2006 to 2010 as the running backs coach. After a brief stint as the offensive coordinator at Colorado University (his alma mater), Bieniemy joined the Chiefs staff in 2013. He spent the first five seasons as Kansas City's RB coach also before being promoted to Offensive Coordinator in 2018.

Under his watch, the Chiefs offense has ascended to new heights. Obviously, much of that has to do with the transcendent quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. But also, the offensive creativity led by Bieniemy has played an important role.

The sooner the Broncos hire a head coach, the sooner they can begin to figure out the future at quarterback.
