The Denver Broncos lost in a narrow defeat to the Tennessee Titans on Monday night and Vic Fangio was criticized for how he failed to utilize his timeouts. After Denver's loss in Week 1, Fangio defended his decision to not use his final timeouts versus the Titans.

“It was two-fold,” Fangio told reporters after the game. “One, their field goal kicker obviously been having his problems so I didn’t want to extend the drive where they could get closer. Number two, we would have used a timeout, but we got the running back out of bounds. We would have used a second timeout, but they threw an incompletion which would have given us one when we got the ball back so that was part of the thinking there.”

Late in the game, Derrick Henry had a 13-yard run with 1:27 left to play in the fourth quarter. Instead of using a timeout, Fangio let the clock run to 49 seconds, allowing the Titans to ensure they'd have the final possession.

While Fangio refused to use a timeout, Mike Vrabel would call a timeout with nearly 30 seconds left in the game. There's no doubt that Stephen Gostkowski, who recently signed with Tennessee, was struggling to make kicks. Gostkowski made just one of his four attempts.

However, the one field goal he did make was the game-winning 25-yarder for the Broncos with under 20 seconds remaining in the game. Given the result of the game, Fangio is going to face some heat for how he managed his timeouts. And seeing that you don't get to carry over timeouts to the following week, it's worth questioning his thinking on Monday night.
