The Denver Broncos fell to 5-9 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in a snowy Week 15 game. Although the Broncos' offense under rookie quarterback Drew Lock was only able to muster three points against their AFC West division rival, seven-time Pro-Bowl linebacker Von Miller came to the defense of the first-year signal-caller.

Per Jon Heath in Broncos Wire:

“Drew is definitely the future,” Miller said Sunday afternoon. “It’s everybody around. Guys have to get open, the offensive line has to block, guys have to run the ball, just cliché little things. Drew is doing what he needs to do. [The] defense needs to stop messing around and rush the pass and play tight coverage.

“We have got to sound like a broken record up here because we keep saying the same thing. We found our quarterback and we have a great one, but everybody else needs to step up. You can’t just lean on one guy, offense, defense or special teams. This is the pros, you cannot just lean on one guy to do it all or to save you, it has to be a collective effort by the foundation of the team.”

Lock, 23, was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by Denver out of Missouri. He threw just 18/40 for 208 passing yards and a single interception, failing to find a receiver in the end zone for 60 minutes against the Chiefs' defense.

While it wasn't Lock's finest hour playing near his collegiate home, the veteran linebacker Miller, a Super Bowl champion holdover still on Denver, knows that it takes more than one player to win—or lose—any football game. Sometimes you can't solely rely on a rookie gunslinger starting in just his third professional game.
