The Cleveland Browns have fired head coach Hue Jackson after a disappointing 2-5-1 start to the season, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jackson's firing comes on the heels of the Browns' 33-18 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, which continues a curious trend in Cleveland. Including Jackson, the last six Browns head coaches have all been fired after their second meeting with the Steelers that season.

Jackson went a mere 3-36-1 in his two and a half seasons with the team. He was still under contract with the Browns until the end of next season.

After going just 1-31 in his first two years, including an infamous 0-16 in 2017, there were a lot of expectations for Jackson heading into this season. The Browns made several significant moves this past offseason to improve the roster with the intention of becoming competitive this year.

However, the Browns have been a disappointment thus far, particularly on the offensive end, which is supposedly Jackson's specialty. The Browns are currently 24th in the league in both scoring and total offense, averaging 21.1 points and 342 yards per game. Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley have reportedly not been on the same page, which has been a big part of the offense's struggles.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, either Jackson or Haley had to go because of their dysfunction working together. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was seemingly leaning toward keeping Jackson. But GM John Dorsey apparently wanted to move on from Jackson, who wasn't his hire, and he got what he wanted.

The search now begins for Jackson's replacement. Whoever gets the job won't have much to live up to, though, after Jackson's dismal one-win-per-year average.
