It's been more than two months since the Cleveland Browns traded for their quarterback of the future in Deshaun Watson. But their soon-to-be ex-QB in Baker Mayfield still remains on the roster.

The obvious move for the Browns has been to trade Mayfield, but with the market looking quite tepid for his services, their has been some hope that the team would potentially cut ties with him by, well, cutting him.

But according to a report from Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot, teams hoping to pick up Baker Mayfield off the scrap heap shouldn't hold their breath.

The Browns have no plans to cut Mayfield, even if he’s still on the roster at the start of training camp in July, a league source tells cleveland.com.

As much as the Browns would want a fresh start without their quarterback of four years still on the roster, the financial hit they'd have to take with straight up cutting him just wouldn't be the salary cap savvy move.

With Mayfield under contract for a fully-guaranteed $18.86 million, it makes no sense for the Browns to cut him and take the entire hit. They’ll subtract whatever he makes from his next team from that amount, but it wouldn’t make much of a dent.

Until one of the QB-needy teams cough up an acceptable offer for Baker Mayfield, it looks like he'll remain in Cleveland for the time being.
