The Browns and Steelers have a longstanding historic rivalry. These are two AFC North teams that do not like each other one bit. And that rivalry could grow even more if a recent Steelers rumor revolving around Baker Mayfield were to come to fruition.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington made the following comments in regards to the Steelers’ interest in Mayfield.

“If for some reason the Browns, and I don’t expect this to happen, were to cut Baker Mayfield, I think he signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers the very next day.”

Darlington continued to explain how teams are interested in the quarterback but do not want to meet the Browns asking price.

“Again, teams do still want Baker Mayfield, they just don’t think that they need to give up as much as the Cleveland Browns are asking right now.”

It would be must-watch football if Baker Mayfield took on the Browns next season as a member of the Steelers. His usual chip on his shoulder would only increase while the Browns defense would love nothing more than to defeat their former teammate.

But the interesting point is the value of Mayfield.

Teams reportedly are interested in him. But the Browns obviously value him more than opponents. Cleveland certainly does not want to cut him so perhaps the Steelers, or even teams such as the Panthers or Seahawks, will end up meeting their asking price. If not, Cleveland may end up starting the year with Mayfield under center if Deshaun Watson faces any kind of suspension. But that is unexpected given that Mayfield isn't even attending the Browns' voluntary offseason workouts

There are a lot of questions and not many answers right now for this situation. But the one thing that is clear is that Baker Mayfield could end up playing for the Steelers in 2022.
