The Cleveland Browns had a chance to get a franchise quarterback in Carson Wentz back in the 2016 NFL Draft, but opted to trade their No. 2 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles, who used it to take the signal-caller. We all know how it turned out for the Eagles. As for the Browns, ex-team head coach Hue Jackson is now insinuating that if it was up to him, he would have had drafted Wentz – at least that’s what he’s partly trying to say in a slightly convoluted quote from an interview with Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“Oh my gosh, yes. Did I like Carson Wentz? Hell yes. He did something that no other quarterback did. I give them three minutes to memorize the book and put on the (white) board. He put it all on the board in two minutes and 48 seconds. I've never had a guy do that ever in my coaching career.

“But the plan was never to take a quarterback that year. It was all about trading back to get picks. If you're doing that you've got to pick the right players.”

Instead of Carson Wentz, the Browns went on to select Corey Coleman in the first round of that draft class. Two years later, Wentz managed to win a Super Bowl with the Eagles, while Coleman is no longer with the Browns.

It doesn’t take as much guts for Hue Jackson to say that today than if he did back when he was still coaching Cleveland. Nevertheless, it would be understandable if some people would view this comments from Jackson as a byproduct of his saltiness over the Browns’ decision to let him go. Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley were both handed their walking papers by Cleveland after a dismal 2-5-1 start to the season and their apparent inability to straighten up the team’s offense.
