The Cleveland Browns are experiencing yet another disappointing season as the league's only winless team heading into Week 14, and head coach Hue Jackson's name appeared to be on the hot seat.

Given the collective failure of the franchise, team owner Jimmy Haslam announced the firing of general manager Sashi Brown in just his second season with the team. But, Haslam conversely made it clear that Jackson will keep his job heading into 2018, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

“We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi’s commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns,” Haslam said. “Today we informed Sashi that we were going in a new direction. The 2018 draft and offseason is pivotal for our franchise, we need to ensure that we maximize our opportunity for success; with our picks, free agency and building our roster. Hue Jackson will remain our coach and will return for the 2018 season but we feel it is necessary to take significant steps to strengthen our personnel department. We have begun the process of having productive conversations regarding leadership of our football operations and will provide further updates when appropriate. We thank Sashi for all his hard work and dedication to the Cleveland Browns.”

The decision to let go of Brown isn't surprising given the lack of success and questionable roster and draft moves over his brief tenure. Still, Jackson hasn't done much to evoke confidence that he's the right man to eventually lead this franchise out of the doldrums.

Heading into their Week 14 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland holds a 1-27 record in the first 28 regular season games under Jackson. His 2017 Browns are four losses away from becoming just the third in league history to put together a winless campaign since the AFL-NFL merger.

Haslam is clearing placing a great deal of importance on how this offseason unfolds, with a central focus on the 2018 NFL Draft. The Browns have six extra draft picks, including a first-rounder, two seconds, a fourth, and a fifth. The team also possesses potentially $59.3 million in cap space that they can attempt to lure free agents with

It's clear that Jackson's fate in Cleveland will be determined by how this offseason unfolds.
