The Cleveland Browns are set to soon face a dilemma regarding Kareem Hunt’s future with the team. From the veteran running back's standpoint, he much prefers to stay put.

Hunt recently took some time to speak to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, where he noted that he has asked for an extension deal. He also added that in the big picture, he is simply being patient with his contract situation.

“Right now, I'm just taking it day by day,” Hunt said. “I'm going to see what they want to do with me, and I'm just taking it day by day. Hopefully, I can be here long-term.

“We'll see what God has in plan for me, that’s all I can say.”

Hunt will play the 2022 season on the final year of his contract, as he holds a $6.25 million cap hit for the upcoming campaign.

As it stands, Browns general manager Andrew Berry may be forced to make a few roster decisions, as the team currently boasts five running backs. Nick Chubb is slated to once again lead Cleveland's running backs group, while D’Ernest Johnson may remain on the roster for the 2022 campaign after signing off on a one-year, $2.433 million agreement with the team over the first week of June.

A report earlier in the month mentioned that the Browns view Hunt as being “very much” in their plans for the coming season. More so, the veteran back is not in “jeopardy” of being a talent who the team aims to trade ahead of Week 1.

A calf injury marred Hunt’s 2021 season in Cleveland, as he finished the year with 560 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns over eight games played.
