The Cleveland Browns made it clear heading into the NFL offseason that they were in the market for a franchise-caliber quarterback. The team was coming off a winless season and desperately needed to address the position which didn't work out with DeShone Kizer.

Ultimately, the Browns traded for Tyrod Taylor to help fill the void at quarterback. Along with bringing in a veteran, Cleveland also drafted potential future face of the franchise in Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. Although these are two solid additions to the position in Cleveland, the team initially targeted reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles before making the deal with the Bills. Taylor was asked about the move to go after Foles before him this offseason, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“I’m assuming at that time I was still a Buffalo Bill, so that really doesn’t effect me,” Taylor said. “Things happen in this league that you can’t change. I’m always going to focus on the things that I can change, and that’s my attitude daily. The effort that I bring and the energy that bring around my teammates. That’s been my focus.

“Like I said, I really can’t speak on or let that effect me.”

Currently, Taylor is expected to be the Week 1 starter for the Browns as the 2018 NFL season gets underway for the struggling franchise on Sept. 9 against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although Mayfield has made things interesting in Cleveland as he impressed the team enough to convince the decision makers to take him ahead of USC's Sam Darnold, the Oklahoma product will be behind the veteran on the depth chart until he proves his worth. Head coach Hue Jackson won't want to make the same mistake he made with Kizer if he feels the Heisman Trophy winner isn't ready.

However, there's still a long way to go before the Week 1 matchup with the Steelers with no one ruling out the prospect of the top pick being the starter earlier than expected.
