A potential reunion of goaltender Tuukka Rask with the Boston Bruins could soon anytime now. According to Mark Divver of NHL.com, Rask has been released by the Providence Bruins — Boston's affiliate — Tuesday morning, thus paving a clear path to his return to the NHL.

Rask has not seen action in the NHL since the 2020-21 season due to a torn labrum injury that needed surgery in the offseason. The initial plan for him was to get himself acclimated to a competitive atmosphere by playing in the minors before reuniting with the only team he's played for in the NHL.

However, he was not able to get some action between the pipes for Providence due to scheduling issues brought about by COVID-19 protocols.

The AHL squad was scheduled to play last Friday and Sunday at home against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, though COVID-19 protocols led to both being postponed and rescheduled to April 11 and 19, delaying Rask's return to game action.

The Boston Bruins don't necessarily need goaltending help, but their fans surely would love to see Rask in front of the net again for the team. On the season, the Bruins are seventh in the NHL in goals allowed per game (2.59), with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman sharing netminding duties.

Rask has 14 years of experience in the NHL during which he's collected a 306-163-66 record, a 2.27 GAA, and a .921 SV%.
