Veteran netminder Tuukka Rask is on track to make a return to the Boston Bruins. The Finland native has just signed a professional contract with the AHL affiliate of Boston, the Providence Bruins, after recovering from labrum surgery. Rask is currently an unrestricted free agent but is widely expected to ink a new deal with the organization in what would be his 15th season in the NHL.

The Bruins currently sit in the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference and will certainly welcome Rask back with open arms, one of the best goalies to ever put on their uniform. Throughout his impressive career, the 34-year-old has won the Vezina Trophy once in 2014 and finished as a finalist in 2020. He's also the all-time leader in Bruins franchise history.

Rask, who would be one of the only veterans left on Boston from their earlier days, spoke on how special it will be to play with the likes of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron again. Via ESPN:

“That's why I didn't want to flirt with the opportunity to go anywhere else,” Rask said. “It's a business, but for us players to have a team like the Bruins — and a bunch of us have grown up together here — you feel that brotherhood and you don't want to leave on bad terms. I just wanted to come back and maybe finish it up with a bunch of those guys who I played with my whole career.”

The trio won a Stanley Cup together in 2011 when they beat the Vancouver Canucks. It will be a sight for sore eyes once Rask is playing for the Bruins again. He'll start in between the posts on Friday for Providence.
