Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans may not be able to play on Saturday, and Chris Godwin doesn't envy the person who might have to deliver the news.

Godwin was (jokingly) asked by NFL Network's James Palmer if he feared for the safety of whoever would be tasked with telling Evans that he won't be able to face the Washington Football Team for his team's Wild Card matchup, should that be the decision.

Godwin wisecracked in return:

“I would not want to be the one telling Mike that he can’t go.”

Evans injured his knee in Tampa's Week 17 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The seventh-year pro is questionable for the team's Wild Card matchup against the Washington Football Team.

Fortunately, Evans avoided the worst. An MRI revealed a hyperextension and no structural or ligament damage, per ESPN. At the moment, the Buccaneers are cautiously optimistic about the star wideout's status for the weekend but will know more later in the week as the playoff game draws closer.

The Buccaneers are playing in their first postseason game since 2007, meaning Saturday could mark Evans' postseason debut. Just prior to leaving Sunday's game, the three-time Pro Bowler became the first player in NFL history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first seven seasons.

In 16 games in 2020, Evans posted 7o receptions for 1,006 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns.

Losing Evans would certainly hurt, though Tom Brady has no shortage of receiving weapons in Tampa. Along with Godwin, WRs Antonio Brown and Scotty Miller, plus TEs Cameron Brate and Rob Gronkowski, could see a few more targets.

The Buccaneers (11-5) and the Washington Football Team (7-9) will cap off the first day of playoff football, with kickoff set for 8:15 p.m. ET at FedEx Field.
