Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston remains one of the most notable players left on the market in free agency. It seems his status has left wide receiver Chris Godwin in a state of confusion.

It is not often a former No. 1 overall pick and Pro Bowler is made available. Godwin is admittedly surprised that his former Buccaneers teammate has not been picked up yet, via NFL Update:

“Honestly, I’m very surprised just because I think it’s evident that the talent is there for Jameis. And, in my opinion, I think you’d be hard pressed to find 32 quarterbacks better than him.”

Godwin's comments are certainly understandable considering how many teams still have problems under center around the league. The fact that a player of his caliber remains available on the market has been one of the biggest stories of the offseason.

The Buccaneers effectively opted to replace Winston with quarterback Tom Brady in free agency following a tumultuous 2019 campaign. He is coming off one of the most polarizing seasons in NFL history after becoming the first quarterback ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a single season.

Despite Winston's struggles, he still enjoyed a career year by leading the league in passing yards, completions, and attempts. This alone should have been more than enough to spur interest around the league. While the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has prevented him from showing off his skill set to teams in person, he still has plenty of game film to help make his case for a shot in the 2020 NFL season.
