The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen their season continue to titter south holding a 3-5 record through the first eight games of the season after dropping their last two straight games and five out of the last six overall.
This created a strong sense of disgruntlement from wide receiver DeSean Jackson that had seen his future in Tampa Bay up in the air prior to the trade deadline. Jackson made these feelings public as he voiced that he wasn't happy with his role in the offense along with the continued struggles the franchise has experienced on the field this season, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN.
“I can't say I'm as happy. I'm not winning. I'm not being as productive. For me to sit here and say I'm happy with that, I'd be lying to you,” Jackson said. “It's a competitive sport, a competitive nature, we're all professionals. Everyone gets paid to do a job and do it at [our] best. I don't feel we've been doing that the past couple of games, at our best, with what we're capable of doing with the talent in this locker room.”
Jackson has seen his role fluctuate as the season has rolled along that have led to him having 28 catches on 47 targets for 626 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Although he began the year on a blazing start with three 100 receiving yard performances in the first four games played, he has recorded fewer than 35 receiving yards two out of the last three contests.
The 31-year-old has proven that he is still an explosive playmaker behind his speed and big-play ability, but it hasn't resulted in him having a consistent role. This combined with the Buccaneers' lack of success on the field only further adds to his personal frustrations.
There could be a change of scenery for Jackson following this season as the $10 million in the final year of his three-year, $33.5 million deal has no dead cap hit if the team were to part ways with him. Things could certainly pick up on this front in the offseason if that's the direction he wants to head.
