Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman has been in the headlines recently for all the wrong reasons. Instead of being celebrated for his on-field play, Sherman is now being ridiculed for his off-field altercations after being charged in court for several criminal misdemeanors.

The string of criminal charges stems from an incident in July 2021 where Sherman attempted to forcibly enter his in-law's home after leaving the scene of an accident on Highway 520 near Redmond, WA.

Richard Sherman was initially charged with first-degree negligent driving, second-degree criminal trespass, and speeding in a roadway construction zone, but according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times a plea deal was reached that allows Sherman to avoid the punishments typically associated with these crimes. Sherman pleaded guilty on three criminal misdemeanor charges on Monday and was forced to pay a fine of $1305.50 for his actions.

Luckily for Sherman, the plea deal allowed him to avoid any further jail time after he had already spent two consecutive nights in jail following his initial arrest.

The former Seahawk legend, member of the famous “Legion of Boom,”, most recently played in 2021 for the Buccaneers. This incident occurred prior the 2020-21 season, and Sherman has not received any punishment from the NFL to this date.

Hopefully for the Buccaneers standout, this plea deal will help him continue to rehab his public perception. The CB has not yet retired from the NFL, and if he has any hope of returning to play, this ruling hopefully sets him off on the right track.
