The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed safety Darian Stewart, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic.

Stewart spent the 2018 campaign with the Denver Broncos, playing in 14 games and registering 60 tackles, a sack, a couple of interceptions, and a fumble recovery. He was released by the Broncos in March.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, went undrafted but eventually landed with the St. Louis Rams in 2010. He spent the first four years of his career with the Rams, alternating between a starter and a reserve. Overall, he started 19 games, with 13 of his starts coming in 2011, when he totaled 77 tackles, three sacks, a pick, 11 passes defended, and a defensive touchdown.

After his time in St. Louis, Stewart joined the Baltimore Ravens for one season, appearing in all 16 contests while making 14 starts and finishing with 56 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Stewart then made his way to Denver in 2015 and was a starter for the Broncos through all four of his seasons with the club. His best season came in 2016, when he made the Pro Bowl after recording 68 tackles, three picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and six passes defended.

His impressive performance that year led to a four-year, $28 million extension with Denver, but Stewart only played out two years of the deal.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are coming off of a season in which they won five games. They have not made the playoffs since the 2007-08 campaign, representing the longest active playoff drought in the NFC.
