Tom Brady's heartfelt message to fans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization seemed harmless, but veteran sports commentator Skip Bayless has some huge concerns as he relates it to the retirement rumors involving the superstar QB.

On Tuesday, Brady took to Instagram to thank the fans for their support all year long. While the Buccaneers failed to defend their Super Bowl title, exiting at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday, TB12 has nothing but appreciation for the campaign they had and what they achieved as a team despite falling short.

Interestingly, what struck Bayless about Brady's message is the fact that it is in “past tense” and all about being thankful and appreciative as if he is ready to put his career behind him.

“All he did, this was his final message on Instagram to his team,” Bayless said during the latest episode of his “Undisputed” show with Shannon Sharpe. “And again, what is horrifying to me is it’s all past tense, and it’s all about gratitude, it’s all about ‘thank you, I love you all, thank you for living and dying with me this year', because, as he said, ‘we went out fighting.' Past tense, past tense, past tense. He’s never been about past tense.

“I told you to start the show, a high-ranking Tampa Bay source told me that they were horrified because they wanted to hear after the game, ‘Let’s go' because after the Super Bowl win, it was ‘Hell yeah, I’m coming back.' Like he was offended by the question. He was not offended by the question [on Sunday after the loss to Rams]–he ducked it and dodged it and said ‘I need some time.' And my source told me ‘We will be surprised' and then he amended to ‘No, we will be shocked … if he comes back and plays.' And he’s talking about football, period.”

Is Skip Bayless overreacting here? Is he reading too much between the lines and making assumptions on an otherwise heartwarming message? Probably, but no one can really blame him for that.

For what it's worth, there are tons of reasons to be concerned about Tom Brady's future with the Buccaneers. Even before their game against the Rams, there were already talks that it could be his final game should they lose. There were also reports saying that some of his teammates would not be surprised if he decides to call it a career.

Brady has remained largely silent about his thoughts of coming back for another year with the Buccaneers, but he did mention recently one major factors that will play a big role in his decision: his family.

The Buccaneers QB admitted that it “pains” her wife Gisele Bundchen to see him get hit on a daily basis, and he admitted that he wanted to be a good husband to his wife and father to his kids.

It remains to be seen what Brady will do, but fans will have to wait before he makes his decision. After all, the 44-year-old did note that he will take his time before making a final decision. Whatever it may be, though, there is no denying that Brady has already cemented his status as one of the greatest NFL players of all time and arguably the best quarterback ever.
