Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo might be the reigning two-time NBA MVP, but former All-Star point guard Gilbert Arenas is not impressed.

“Agent Zero” had some harsh words for Antetokounmpo–and James Harden–during a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast.

When Sharpe asked what the “Greek Freak” needs to do to win his first title, Arenas deadpanned “Learn how to play basketball.” He then elaborated on that answer, suggesting Giannis' game does not translate to the playoffs:

“To be honest, he's the James Harden of the East Coast,” Gilbert Arenas said, via FOX Sports. “What James Harden is in the West, is what Giannis is there. You have a guy who's not a point guard, who dominates the ball, and he's playing one style. And that style is: ‘I'm gonna try to take all the big men who can't move off the dribble, Euro step and get some dunks.' That is amazing during the regular season, but when that court gets small you can't do that anymore.”

Arenas is not necessarily wrong in his assessment.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the NBA in usage rate (37.5 percent) this past season, and was the ultimate orchestrator of Milwaukee's offense.

But the Miami Heat had a simple plan of attack against Giannis in the playoffs: pack the paint, and send multiple defenders to cut off straight-line drives.

It was essentially the exact same formula the Toronto Raptors employed in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals. Considering the Raptors and Heat both overwhelmed the Bucks upon shutting down Giannis, it would seem the formula for beating the Bucks is straightforward.

Milwaukee will hope Jrue Holiday can take some of the offensive onus off Antetokounmpo. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see whether Giannis has made further improvements to his perimeter game.

But until the Bucks superstar changes his game, Arenas feels he is stuck in the mud.
