Chicago Bulls starting point guard Kris Dunn will make his season debut Monday against the Dallas Mavericks, according to head coach Fred Hoiberg.

Dunn is away from the team at the moment, as his girlfriend recently gave birth to their first child.

The Bulls acquired Kris Dunn from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Jimmy Butler trade during the summer of 2017. In 52 regular-season games last year, Dunn averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists while shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Chicago hosts the Detroit Pistons tonight in its home opener. Cameron Payne will get the start again at point guard.

Kris Dunn was at the Bulls’ practice facility all summer working on his game, and he is poised to take the next step this year. In the past, Dunn has let his play on the floor do the talking for him. However, the 24-year-old Connecticut native understands he has to take on more of a leadership role this season due to the position he plays on the team.

Dunn is arguably the best perimeter defender on the Bulls. He averaged 2.0 steals per game last season. At 6-foot-4, Dunn is able to use his stature to hound opposing point guards, something the Bulls will need from him all season.
