The Washington Capitals are having another solid season, led by future Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin. On Wednesday night, Ovechkin made some NHL history.

Less than four minutes into their game against the Chicago Blackhawks, Ovechkin found the back of the net for another power play goal. This was Ovi's 274th career power play goal of his illustrious career.

Ovechkin tied Dave Andreychuk with 274 career power play goals. That is tied for the most in NHL history.

Add that to the long list of records Ovechkin either has broken already or will break. Ovechkin now has 751 career goals. That ranks him 4th all-time behind only Jaromir Jagr, Gordie Howe and the Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky. Ovechkin is only 15 goals behind Jagr, so he will surely pass him this season for 3rd all-time.

Howe has 801 career goals, so Ovechkin will probably have to wait until next season to pass him. The question remains will Ovi ever surpass Gretzky who retired with 894 career goals.

What is even more astounding is how quickly Ovechkin has achieved these feats. He has only played in 1,226 games, whereas Jagr has played in 1,733 games. Howe played in 1,767 games and Gretzky in 1,487.

Ovechkin is also 26th on the all-time points list with 1,366 points over the course of his career.

For the longest time, Ovechkin was looked at like a scoring machine who could not take his team to the next level. Meanwhile, his nemesis and other generational great, Sidney Crosby, was winning multiple Stanley Cups. But Ovechkin put an end to that talk when he led the Capitals to Lord Stanley's cup in 2018.
