Why The Cardinals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Lance Lynn takes the mound in this game, and he is having a very good season back in St. Louis. Lynn has a 3.28 ERA, and 33 strikeouts through 35.2 innings. He is much better on the road this season, as well. In his three road starts, Lynn has allowed just two earned runs through 16 innings of work. His strikeouts are down on the road, but he is overall a better pitcher. Lynn needs this to continue Friday night. If he has another good road start, the Cardinals are going to win this game.

The Cardinals are facing a pitcher making his MLB debut. In 12 innings at AAA this season, Gasser has walked six batters, given up 12 hits, and four of those hits are home runs. He seems to give up some hits, and it only gets harder at the big league level. Now, the Cardinals are short-handed, and some of their better hitters are struggling, but they have a pretty good matchup in this game. If they can get to the rookie, the Cardinals will win this game.

Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Brewers swept the Cardinals earlier this season. In those three games, the Brewers outscored St. Louis 16-6. In fact, there were two games in which they allowed just one run and zero runs. Milwaukee has been able to shut down the Cardinals offense, and they need to do just that in this game. As mentioned, Gasser does give up some hits, and there is a possibility of a long ball, but he is still a very good pitcher.

Gasser has struck out 369 batters in 299.1 career Minor League innings. The Cardinals are not a free-swinging team, so Gasser has a great chance to work ahead early and often in this game. The fact is Gasser needs to get ahead in this game. Gasser does have a good career strike percentage, so he should be able to get ahead. If he can do that, the Brewers are going to win, and Gasser will get his first career win.

Final Cardinals-Brewers Prediction & Pick

It is never easy to make a season debut. Gasser is going to have a lot of emotions in this game, but he is a great pitcher. Along with that, the Cardinals are short-handed, and just struggling as a team. In fact, they are bottom-5 in batting average, OPS, and they are just not hitting balls hard this season. For that reason, I am going to take Gasser to get his first career win as the Brewers beat the Cardinals.
