When it was a certainty that J.J. Watt would not be a Houston Texan anymore, some popular possibilities for his new team were the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers. All of a sudden, the Arizona Cardinals welcomed the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Now, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is rumored to no longer want to play for the organization next season. Surprisingly, the Cardinals are in the top ten probable destinations for the reigning league MVP, per BetOnline.ag. More specifically, Arizona has the same odds as the Philadelphia Eagles in the ninth spot at 20/1.

Perhaps, the odds are the way that they are because they think Rodgers can be traded for Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, per Jeremy Cluff of Arizona Republic.

Murray was the number one overall pick in the 2019 draft and is just 23 years old. He has shown promise so far and instead of hitting the sophomore slump, he had a sophomore jump.

Murray became a more accurate passer, despite throwing the ball more often. His touchdown to interception ratio significantly improved. Further, he almost tripled the number of rushing scores he had. Murray has taken much fewer sacks in his second year than in his rookie campaign, although this could not be solely attributed to him.

On the other hand, Rodgers is 37 years old but shows no signs of slowing down. Almost any team he suits up for will become a contender.

It would be wiser for the Cardinals to stick with what they have in Murray. Getting Rodgers will accelerate their timeline in winning a championship, but would also hurt their cap space more making it difficult to upgrade the roster.
