The Arizona Cardinals could end up seeing running back James Conner miss their Week 16 encounter with the Indianapolis Colts, as he has been officially ruled as questionable due to a heel injury.

Conner entered the Cardinals' recent matchup against the Detroit Lions dealing with an ankle injury, which he sustained over the late stages of the team’s home defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14. The versatile back totaled for 70 yards from scrimmage in the loss to the Lions, although he came away from the contest with a heel injury.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury opted to play it safe with Conner’s heel injury this week, as he elected to sideline him from each of the team's scheduled practice sessions.

Kingsbury noted during his press conference on Thursday that Conner will be a game-time decision, as the team will work him out on Saturday to get a feel on whether he may be fit to feature in the contest.

Conner shared on Thursday that he is optimistic about being available for the Cardinals’ crucial clash with the Colts.

“I’m confident,” Conner said. “Still in the air, it’s a little bit of both. I’m making progress on it. Just got a little spot that’s hurt, so just keep getting that treatment on it.

“If I take it hour by hour and just try to keep getting better so I feel the best going into (Saturday).”

If Conner does not end up receiving the green light to play against the Colts, then versatile running back Chase Edmonds is expected to see an increase in touches in Week 16. He was just activated from injured reserve on Saturday, as he had been sidelined over the past weeks due to an ankle injury. He finished with 53 rushing yards against the Lions.

The Cardinals will look to get back on track with a possible win over the Colts.
