Chandler Jones is about to hit the NFL free-agent market, and based on current temperatures, it doesn't seem that the Arizona Cardinals will be retaining the services of the 32-year-old pass rusher.

With the Cardinals not using the franchise tag on Jones, the veteran voiced out some hints on what kind of team he prefers to be with next during an appearance on Logan Ryan's The NFL Players Podcast (h/t Arizona's official website)

“To be completely honest, it's not about money at all,” Jones said. “Where I am in my career, I've gotten contracts, I've gotten the Super Bowl, but I think scheme is huge. Or for me, winning more championships. I'll say it again, it's not about money. I will say I want to go to a place that maximizes my talents. There have been times in my career where I'd say I caught myself out of position. I do take the blame, but at the same time it's like, ‘Hey, should I have been doing that?' I have enough comfort where I am in my career and this age to say that.

Jones has never tested the NFL free agency waters before. He started his pro career with the New England Patriots when he was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Pats. He got traded to the Cardinals four years later in 2016 before signing a five-year deal with $82.5 million by Arizona in 2017.

Despite Jones' production of 10.5 sacks in the 2021 NFL season, the Cardinals would likely spend money on another asset than on the former Syracuse Orange, whose best years are already behind him.
