On Thursday, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray agreed to a massive contract extension. The Pro Bowl QB signed a five-year, $230 million deal, with $160 million of it guaranteed. On Friday, news surfaced that $9.3 million of that is tied to his offseason.

According to NBC Sports Mike Florio's league source, the money is specifically tied into his participation in the offseason programs.

The Murray drama started after the end of last season when he removed all mention of the Cardinals franchise on his social media accounts. That got the sports media buzzing. The young QB did not show up for voluntary offseason training assignments (OTA's). Apparently, the Cardinals would really like Kyler Murray to attend in the future. They gave him nine million reasons to show up.

With the quarterback of the future locked up, Arizona can look contending in the NFC West. The defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams are back and still loaded. The San Francisco 49ers have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but have an unanswered question at quarterback in Trey Lance. The Seattle Seahawks are likely going to be a dumpster fire this season.

That leaves opportunity for the Kyler Murray and the Cardinals to sneak into the playoffs. The NFC is not nearly as deep a conference as the AFC. In order for that to happen, Arizona will need Murray to stay healthy. He has been banged up a bit throughout the first three seasons of his career. Last season, he missed three games with an ankle injury.
