Legendary Celtics broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn recently made a few headlines stemming from awkward comments he made about the team’s new center, Aron Baynes. During their preseason opener against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, the veteran commentator talked about seeing him inside the shower room, and discussed what he saw that made him say that “he looks like all of Australia.”

After hearing the comments made about him, Baynes did not take offense, and instead appreciated them all. He even jokingly that his wife received some text messages stemming from it, via Chris Forsberg of ESPN.

Baynes landed in Boston this offseason as he agreed to terms with the C’s on a one year, $4.3 million deal. He has spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Pistons, where he primarily served as the backup of Andre Drummond, and providing them with quality minutes off the bench.

The 30-year-old started on Monday for the Celtics though, as head coach Brad Stevens wanted to see how effective he'll be alongside Al Horford, who slid to the power forward slot. Now entering his sixth season in the NBA, Baynes is showing a lot of maturity, and is clearly focused on his game, and not allowing outside factors like Heinsohn’s uncomfortable comments to serve as a distraction to him.
