The Boston Celtics have officially signed Danilo Gallinari after he cleared waivers on Sunday. According to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Gallinari and the Celtics have agreed on a two-year, $13.3 million deal. The contract is reportedly fully guaranteed and includes a player option.

This was the next in the series of moves the Boston Celtics have made this offseason as they look to get back to the NBA Finals and capture their 18th championship in franchise history. They are currently tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most in NBA history with 17.

The Celtics previously made one of the biggest trades of the offseason thus far. They acquired point guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Indiana Pacers for Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, Juwan Morgan and a 2023 first-round pick. None of those players were in the regular rotation during the run to the NBA Finals for Boston.

Brogdon was arguably the Celtics' biggest need. They struggled immensely offensively vs. the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Brogdon gives them a guard that can create shots for himself or other opportunities for others off the dribble. That is something that was lacking with Marcus Smart running point.

Meanwhile, Gallinari likely slides in off the bench. Boston's second until will now consist of Brogdon, Derrick White, Grant Williams and Gallinari. That's easily one of the better benches in the NBA and is a massive upgrade. Warriors superstar Draymond Green even acknowledged the Brogdon trade might end up being the best move of the offseason.
