Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with President Donald Trump on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., a meeting that got the attention of Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter.

Kanter, a native of Turkey, posted a photo with U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (MS) asking for citizens to get behind the TRAP Act, which would protect international citizens in the United States as well as “political and religious victims” from detention.

Kanter has been one of the most outspoken public figures with respect to the Erdogan regime. He also appeared on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to introduce the “Turkey Human Right Promotion Act” along with Democratic senators Ed Markey (MA) and Ron Wyden (OR) ahead of Erdogan's visit (via Marty Johnson of The Hill):

Kanter spoke his own piece, suggesting that there are plenty of stories worse than his own, via The Hill.

“You guys know my story because I play in the NBA, but there are thousands and thousands of stories out there that are worse than mine,” the 27-year-old said.

“That’s why I’m trying to use my platform to be the voice of all those innocent people who don’t have one,” Kanter added.

The Celtics big man had his passport revoked by the Turkish government in 2017 and have since accused him and his family of acts of terrorism.

In turn, the Celtics big man has criticized Erdogan's regime for a number of injustices against their own citizens.
