Robert Williams III has been arguably the Boston Celtics’ most important player in the playoffs. The center is the cornerstone of their stifling defense, and has allowed their stars to focus more on offense. He’s also an excellent lob threat, and is a solid dump-off option for their playmakers.

So when the Celtics announced that Robert Williams III would be out for Game 3 due to an injury, fans were worried. Williams did a fantastic job against the Heat’s top stars in Games 1 and 2. The impact of his absence became clear from the get-go, as the Cs simply couldn’t stop Miami’s white-hot attack in the first half.

After the game, Ime Udoka brought some more bad news for the Celtics fanbase. During the post-game presser, he revealed that Williams was “truly day-to-day”. He will continue to be that way in the coming weeks, as well. That’s a brutal blow for the team moving forward. (via Tim Bontemps)

Losing Robert Williams is not going to bode well for the Celtics in the playoffs. The center has been nursing a nagging leg injury in the entire playoff run. It seems like the injury has finally caught up to him, forcing him to miss a pivotal Game 3.

Game 4 will be an equally important game for the Celtics against the Heat. Going down 3-1 in the series is less than ideal, especially if you’re the lower seed. They will definitely want Williams back in some capacity for them in the next few days, or else they could be in a lot of trouble.
