Isaiah Thomas has gone through a frustrating 2017-18 season, first being shipped out to the Cleveland Cleveland from the Boston Celtics at the wake of a substantial hip injury, then being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers shortly after returning, only to find himself out of a job once again at the end of the season, ultimately signing a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets.

Yet the 5-foot-9 dynamo considered a potential reunion with the Celtics, reaching out to general manager Danny Ainge before inking his one-year offer with the Nuggets, talking for 15 to 20 minutes on the phone.

“If the opportunity is there, I would just like to let you know that I'd love to come back,” Thomas had told Ainge during their conversation, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ainge was open to the idea, but the Celtics needed to work through Marcus Smart's restricted-free-agency before they could consider making Thomas any sort of viable offer. Ainge was reportedly willing to continue the conversation with his once-star but Thomas had accepted the Nuggets' offer before Boston reached a four-year, $52 million deal with Smart.

“S***, I'd have gone back,” Thomas said of potentially playing in Bean Town again. “I don't hold grudges.”

Thomas seemed pretty upset at Ainge for trading him last summer, pouncing at the first chance to package him in a deal for his now-star Kyrie Irving, who has battled some injuries of his own.

Recently, he showed some sympathy for fellow player DeMar DeRozan after he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs after nine years in Toronto.

Looks like Thomas and Ainge have mended fences after all.

What a difference a calendar year makes.
