Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown is finally getting much-deserved recognition for his talent. However, the 24-year-old fell just short of his first-ever NBA All-Star Game start.

Instead, former Celtics teammate Kyrie Irving, now with the Brooklyn Nets, is starting ahead of Brown. It should be noted that Brown will very likely still make the All-Star Game in his home state of Georgia as a reserve.

Here's a look at the official vote results, which depict how Irving edged out Brown as a starter (via Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports):

The interesting thing to note here is that while Irving finished above Brown in both the fan and player votes, it was actually the Celtics young stud who earned the nod of the media over Kyrie. Brown ranked second in the media vote—just a notch below Bradley Beal, who was unanimously voted first—while Irving ranked fourth.

In spite of the fact that he was virtually crucified by the media for forcing his way out of the Houston Rockets, James Harden, who is now Kyrie's teammate with the Nets, still got more media votes than Irving did.

Kyrie himself is not exactly a darling of the media. He's had a few issues with the press throughout his career, and his unwillingness to speak to the media during the offseason (it resulted in a hefty fine for him, too) likely played a role in the voting.

As for Boston fans, the fact that it was none other than Irving, himself a former Celtic (and one that did not exactly leave the best of marks with the franchise) who ousted Brown out of the starting five adds a bit of insult to injury.
