Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving has shown his benevolent side.

Irving paid for a complete renovation of several facilities in New Jersey's St. Patrick School, his high school alma mater. Irving paid for a new gym, weight room, and locker room, per Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.

It is unclear how much money the renovation cost Kyrie Irving. However, as part of the new digs, Irving received a banner that donned his name, as well as the names of the school's former head coach and several players who suited up for the high school in prior years.

The school's current head coach expressed an enormous amount of gratitude for Irving's gesture, per Zagoria.

“It means a ton,” head coach Chris Chavannes said. “We’ve come a long way since being closed in 2012 to having this happen. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Zagoria also reported that this is not the first time the Celtics star has been generous to his alma mater. The previous year, Irving gave backpacks to all the kids, and the contents included Beats headphones. Irving did the same for the girls' and boys' basketball teams.

It's always great to see basketball players — or any athlete, really — give back to the communities in which they grew up. Irving obviously cares a lot about this school and the basketball program.

With the type of money players make on a regular basis, many of them give back not only to places they came from, but also communities in the cities they play in. Kevin Durant was a good example of that when he played in Oklahoma City. Certainly, these players have been doing what San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich recently stated about the NBA giving back.

Kyrie Irving has cemented himself among those who give back in truly meaningful ways.
