Boston Celtics combo guard Marcus Smart says the team wishes they could start the 2018-19 season all over again after falling short of their goal.

Before the season started, the Celtics were the trendy pick to win the Eastern Conference. Boston went to Game 7 of the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, so the prevailing thought was the Celtics would be even better this season with Irving and Hayward back in the fold.

That wasn't the case at all, though, as the Celtics were a dysfunctional team from start to finish and lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the playoffs in five games.

Smart would like another crack at it with this current roster, but there could be changes coming in Boston this summer:

Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent once he declines his 2019-20 player option. Terry Rozier is a restricted free agent and Al Horford has a player option for next season. On paper, the 2018-19 Celtics team looked really good, but the players were never able to gel on the court.

Smart averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists during the regular season while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 80.6 percent from the free-throw line. He signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Celtics last summer.
