Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart has had plenty of doubters throughout his playing career. But after leading the Celtics on a run to the NBA Finals, Smart is had a message for those who questioned his ability to be a leader on the team. Whether it was those doubting him as a “true point guard” or saying the Celtics needed a star at the position, Smart feels his performance last season was enough to shut them up once and for all. Via Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Smart had a passionate message for his haters.

Smart sounded off on those who claimed he wasn't the right fit for the Celtics. Despite Boston having star point guards on the roster in seasons past, none were able to lead the team as far as this year's squad. That, in the eyes of Smart, is worthy of some recognition, and he kept it real when silencing the critics.

2021-22 was a career year for Smart. Not only did he help lead the Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals, though they lost to the Warriors, but he was also named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year. On the season, Smart averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. He averaged 32.3 minutes per game, the second-highest in his career, and featured in 72 games for the Celtics.

Smart has overcome a lot throughout his career, but he's proven that he's a great fit in Boston, despite what his doubters say. After his excellent season in 2021-22, Smart will look to help Boston get over the hump and win the Finals next season.
