The Michigan football team just won the national title a few months ago, and that should help them with recruiting. However, their 2025 class has gotten off to a bit of a slow start. It's still extremely early in the cycle and there is a lot of time for this to change, but the Wolverines currently have five commits and their class is ranked #36 in the country. That fifth commit came on Friday, and it was a big one as four-star offensive lineman Avery Gach is coming to Michigan.

This is a huge get for head coach Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football team. Yes, there is plenty of time for the Wolverines to get their recruiting going, but it still felt like they needed this one. Michigan missed out on one of their top running back targets earlier in the week as Marquise Davis committed to Kentucky. The Wolverines didn't miss on this one, though.

“BREAKING: 4⭐️ OT Avery Gach has committed to Sherrone Moore and the defending national champion @UMichFootball Wolverines〽️,” 247 Sports said in a tweet. “Gach chose the Wolverines over Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.”

Michigan is a good place to go if you play on the offensive line. The Wolverines have won the Joe Moore Award for the best o-line in college football two out of the past three years, and the one that they didn't win was this past season, and Washington won it over them. The national title game showed who really had the best o-line. The Wolverines have been cranking out OL NFL talent, and that was a big reason why Avery Gach chose them.

“They just came off of the national championship, and you see how many NFL players they’re producing, especially O-linemen,” Gach said during his commitment, according to an article from The Athletic. “Their whole staff is amazing. I really love coach (Sherrone) Moore and coach (Grant) Newsome. They treated me right throughout the whole entire process. It feels like home, and I’m going to win a national championship at the University of Michigan.”

Gach is a four-star prospect according to 247 Sports and he is the #196 player in the 2025 class. He is the #13 IOL in the class and the #2 player in the state of Michigan. He currently attends Wylie E. Groves High School in Franklin, Michigan, which is about 45 minutes from Ann Arbor.

Avery Gach was the fifth commit of the 2025 Michigan football recruiting class. All five of those commits are four-star prospects. The other commits in the class are Nathaniel Marshall (DL), Carter Smith (QB), Bobby Kanka (DL) and Eli Owens (TE).

Winning a national title should help Michigan with their recruiting, but they do have a different approach to NIL than other big schools. In today's era of college football, a lot of schools will give money to a recruit just for committing. The Wolverines haven't been taking that approach, but their players that perform well on the field get taken care of.

The 2025 cycle is early, so it will be interesting to see how it ends up going for Michigan football. Landing Gach was big.
