Since declaring for this year’s Draft, Markelle Fultz has been projected to be a top pick and has emerged as the consensus No. 1 overall pick. His impressive season at Washington had scouts thinking very highly of him and that he has the potential to be a game-changer for an NBA franchise.

However, when the Boston Celtics agreed to trade the top overall selection to the Philadelphia 76ers, many wondered why the team opted to pass up on the opportunity to add the talented point guard to their fold. While many believe it’s about fit and already having Isaiah Thomas in their backcourt, Danny Ainge and company are apparently not convinced that he is a winner, especially coming off his lone season in the NCAA when his team only had a 9-22 record.

Although it can be argued that he was not surrounded with a powerhouse supporting cast compared to other teams, the poor win-loss slate still leaves a negative impression on him as he was not able to lead the Huskies to more victories, as well as an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

The good news for Fultz is that the Sixers believe in him and did what they can to guarantee drafting him. He can also use the comments made about him as extra motivation to prove that he can help turn around his future team’s fortunes and be a winner at the highest level.
