The Los Angeles Chargers continue to take significant steps forward heading into the final two weeks of the regular season with a chance to secure the top overall spot in the AFC playoff picture. They could get some additional help offensively with tight end Hunter Henry continuing to progress in his recovery from a torn ACL. In fact, head coach Anthony Lynn stated on Monday morning that it wouldn't shock him if Henry is able to take the field at some point down the stretch this year, according to Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register.

Henry has spent the last several months working his way back from the injury that he suffered on the first day of training camp. He had been set to come in as the top receiving target at his position with the team electing to move on from former Pro Bowler Antonio Gates after 15 seasons. Henry had taken over the bulk of the snaps at tight end over Gates in 2017, posting career highs of 46 catches, 579 receiving yards, and four touchdowns.

However, Henry's injury put the team in the position to bring back Gates for another season, and he has done a solid job providing production this year, registering 25 catches for 312 receiving yards and two touchdowns while playing in 14 games. Gates is coming off one of his best performances of the campaign with four catches for 54 receiving yards in the 29-28 comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chargers will continue to monitor this situation moving forward, especially given Henry's injury typically takes nine months to a year to fully recover from. Nonetheless, this shows that Henry is well on his way to being ready to make his return much sooner than expected.
