The Los Angeles Chargers have been one of the better teams in the league so far. They're in a tough Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots, as they hope to maintain a lead of the AFC West with a win. Unfortunately, rookie cornerback Asante Samuel has gone down with an injury.

During the fourth quarter of the game, the Chargers' rising star went down with a concussion. He was unable to pass protocols and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, per the Los Angeles Chargers Twitter account.

This is not ideal, as the Chargers need their young rookie on the field if they hope to remain competitive. He's been phenomenal for LA so far. The Patriots have looked solid throughout this game though and Samuel will be sorely missed. New England came to play and they're giving the Chargers a run for their money.

We'll see how long Asante Samuel is ruled out. There is a lengthy process for players to go through before being cleared from a concussion. Hopefully, it's not a serious matter and the rookie cornerback comes back in Week 9.

It's early on into his career, but Asante Samuel Jr. has lived up to the hype so far. He obviously takes after his father, as he's played a vital role for LA's defense from the jump. He's been able to generate five pass deflections and two interceptions this season. A decent showing for a rookie cornerback in the NFL.

Keep a close eye on Asante Samuel Jr. and the Chargers. They'll be monitoring him throughout the week. For now, the Chargers must finish this matchup against the Patriots without their young cornerback.
