To everyone's surprise, Los Angeles Chargers' rookie quarterback Justin Herbert made his professional debut in their Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Starting playmaker Tyrod Taylor was having chest pains that would require him to go to the hospital for further evaluation which slotted Herbert to play under center.

The Chargers surprisingly had a strong start against the Chiefs before the reigning champions erased and built a lead of their own. The game eventually went to overtime with the Chiefs pulling away 23-20 in a tight victory. Herbert completed 22-of-33 passes for 311 yards, a touchdown, and an interception for the Chargers.

Chargers' defensive end Joey Bosa heaped praises for his rookie teammate who started his first game with a respectable performance against a tough opponent:

“It sucks what happened to Tyrod; I can’t believe that,” Bosa said, via Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com. “I’ve never heard of anything like that before in my life. But it was great to see Herbie out there. I’ve been liking what I’ve been seeing from him. I think he’s gonna be a good player, and I think he showed out today. Obviously, he made some mistakes with the pick, but we all made mistakes. And for it being his first game, I thought he showed a lot of great stuff.”

Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen added 96 receiving yards on 7 receptions for Los Angeles while veteran tight end Hunter Henry chalked up 83 receiving yards on 6 catches. Undrafted sophomore wideout Jalen Guyton also contributed 14 yards on a lone reception and a scored touchdown for the team.

Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn adamantly stated that Tyrod Taylor will remain the starting quarterback of the team as long as he remains healthy. But would Justin Herbert's productive professional debut make the front office think twice on who to slot under center? Time will tell.
