Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Chargers congratulated the 22-year-old signal-caller following a stellar first year in the pros.

After a fantastic four-year collegiate career with the Oregon Ducks, Justin Herbert was selected sixth overall by the Chargers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the third quarterback taken in that pool but eventually outshined his more high-profile counterparts Joe BurrowĀ andĀ Tua Tagovailoa.

He initially played back-up for LA's starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Herbie impressed when he got the opportunity to start in Week 2 against reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs after an absurd punctured lung situation with starter Taylor.. The Chargers dropped that game but Herbert was able to become the third player in NFL history to pass for at least 300 yards and rush for a touchdown in his debut.Ā

Herbert went on to break more records in the coming weeks, becoming the first rookie quarterback in NFL history with multiple touchdowns in seven consecutive games. The Oregon standout also set the NFL record for most passing touchdowns by a rookie, which was previously owned by Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns.
