The Los Angeles Chargers have a lot of excitement brewing around beautiful SoFi Stadium, which is the home of this season's Super Bowl. With new head coach Brandon Staley and young star quarterback Justin Herbert, the hype is real.

But, one question the Chargers were waiting to figure out is whether or not to extend former first-round pick Mike Williams. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, it appears the Chargers aren't going to extend the former Clemson star, who is due a hefty amount on the last year of his current deal.

“Not many receivers are in a better spot than Mike Williams, who will make $15.7 million on a fifth-year option before hitting free agency. I'm hearing the Chargers and Williams are not expected to reach a long-term extension.”

While this isn't entirely surprising, it likely means Williams is all set to become a free agent after the season concludes. So far, he has been productive for the Chargers– when healthy, that is.

In four seasons with the Chargers, he has totaled 2500 yards and 17 touchdowns. He had 10 scores in 2018 and then had 1000 yards in 2019 but only scored twice that season.

Nonetheless, if Williams hits the market, he should have a ton of suitors, and with the Chargers having rumored interest in courting Davante Adams next offseason, this move has been on the walls for some time now.
