Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Thomas Davis is back for another season in the NFL. His only goal is to be the best he can. Before last season Davis said that he would be retiring, but he was already backtracking on the comments before training camp started.

Davis was suspended the first four games of last season for performance-enhancing drugs; that was part of the reason he decided to keep fighting. He also feels he has a lot left to give; that suspension has pushed him back into the game.

“No doubt. That definitely factored into it,” Davis said via The Athletic. “The way the season went in Carolina, I definitely don’t think I would have walked away from the game that way. I just had that feeling of still wanting to play and still being able to play. That was the biggest thing. My body said that I could still play.”

The Carolina Panthers decided not to bring Davis back and he signed a two-year deal in the offseason with the Chargers.

Davis said he is coming into this season to give everything he can and will revisit after this season if he wants to continue to play.

“I’m coming in with the mindset of being the best I can this year and then seeing what happens after the season,” Davis said, “If we win the Super Bowl and they want me back, then we’ll see how it goes.”

The Chargers hope he can be the missing piece that helps the team to a Super Bowl victory.
