The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with quarterback Tyrod Taylor on a 2-year deal, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The former Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills quarterback was likely looking for a starting job in the league, but will instead settle to sit behind Phillip Rivers on a Chargers team that seems ready to contend in a crowded AFC.

Terms of the deal aren’t known as of yet, but it looks like Taylor was content with spending another season learning from some of the best.

Taylor, who was initially the starter for the Browns last year before being benched for rookie Baker Mayfield, was rumored to have been looked at by teams like the Miami Dolphins, who are in need of a quarterback for the upcoming season.

However, it seems as if those teams have gone in another direction, and Taylor has chosen to sign elsewhere.

Injuries aside, Taylors 2018 season wasn’t anything to write home about. In the three games he did play, Taylor completed 42 of 85 passes for 473 yards, threw two touchdowns and two interceptions, and had a passer rating of 64.5 on the year. The 29-year old spent his college career at Virginia Tech, and was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round (180th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft.

After backing up Joe Flacco for four years, Taylor got his starting chance on the Buffalo Bills in 2015, where he actually played well enough to be a Pro Bowl quarterback. In 2015, Taylor threw for 3,035 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just six interceptions with a passer rating of 99.4. Unfortunately, things went downhill for Taylor, and he’s since spent a majority of his seasons on the bench.

The Chargers are coming off of a 2018 season that went much better than most expected, as the team finished with a 12-4 record, but was forced to play in two road playoff games, one of which they lost to the New England Patriots.
