Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is chasing Tom Brady in the GOAT discussion.

Now, he's chasing Brady's long-time teammate, Rob Gronkowski, into the non-fungible token game.

The market for NFT, the latest crypto-collectible craze, is becoming increasingly flooded with products backed by professional athletes and public figures, most notably NBA Top Shot.

Last week, Gronkowski became the first football star to join the fray. In partnership with OpenSea, the tight end will be selling four digital cards from each of his Super Bowl victories, plus a fifth compilation card.

The hand-picked moments will be auctioned this month, and the highest bidder will get an opportunity to meet Gronkowski and attend an NFL game as his guest, in addition to owning the NFT.

During an appearance on CNBC's The Exchange on Friday, Mahomes revealed his plans to jump into the game.

On March 17, the 2019 MVP and Chiefs quarterback will offer up “The Museum of Mahomes”, an NFT gallery, which will put six pieces of art up for auction. Proceeds from the sales will go to his foundation, 15 and the Mahomies, along with the Boys & Girls Clubs in Missouri.

The Museum will launch on the digital art market, MakersPlace. It will include three tiers of collectibles that Mahomes created with The Impossible Brief, a duo of artists whose clientele include The Chainsmokers and Coldplay.

Patrick Mahomes said he’s fascinated by the digital collectibles market and “how blockchain auctions are growing, so when the opportunity to get into digital memorabilia came my way I jumped.”

The prices range from $2,500 to $15,000. There will also be a mystery piece with no set price.

“I’m looking to break boundaries and make history on and off the field,” Mahomes said. “That’s the great thing about being an athlete these days, you have so many outlets and opportunities to expand your brand and make an impact.”
