There has been plenty of speculation regarding the looming return of safety Eric Berry. It appears he is finally set to do so versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Berry has been sidelined since the 2017 NFL season opener with an Achilles injury. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he is expected to play versus the Chargers in Week 15:

Kansas City safety Eric Berry, who last played for the Chiefs in Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season before rupturing his left Achilles, is expected to make his season debut Thursday night vs Chargers, per source.

This is certainly encouraging news for Kansas City. The one knock on their chances at a Super Bowl this year has been their lackluster defense. Berry's presence will undoubtedly help stabilize things in the secondary.

Berry is a three-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler. He was sensational in his last full season of play after registering 77 tackles and returning two of his four interceptions for touchdowns. When healthy, he is regarded as one of the elite safeties in the NFL and it is easy to see why.

His versatile skill set makes him a seamless fit in any defensive scheme. His ability as a playmaker should also pay huge dividends for the Chiefs.

The timing certainly could not be more perfect. Kansas City is preparing for perhaps its most crucial game of the regular season with both teams vying for the top spot in the AFC West. The Chiefs will need all the help they can get to combat the high-powered Chargers offense.
