When it comes to NFL head-coach hiring cycles, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is always a bridesmaid and never the bride. Despite helping Andy Reid unlock the talents of Patrick Mahomes and winning the Super Bowl, he has not yet landed a head coaching gig.

The two previous people to occupy his position with the Chiefs, Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy, became head coaches. Bieniemy's name is always thrown around in rumors and he has landed interviews with teams but to no avail. Bieniemy's inability to land the top coaching job at the NFL level doesn't sit well with him but he isn't hopeless. The Chiefs OC told Adam Teicher of ESPN that he simply has to go get the opportunities that come to him.

“I'm not seeking any comfort. I haven't gotten it for whatever reason. It [doesn't] matter. I'm going to keep knocking on that door and I'm going to keep working my ass off to make sure that it happens. My job this year is to make sure we take care of business that needs to be taken care of today to help us achieve the goal down the road. And then it's time for me when it's presented to just go and get the job.”

Last week, former Chiefs running back LeSean McCoy said that the way he operates with players is the reason why he hasn't landed a gig. Reid shot down that notion but the mystery around no teams having an interest in Bieniemy remains.

This season will be a huge test for Bieniemy. With the Chiefs' wide receiver core looking weaker than in past years, he will have to help Mahomes in new ways. This is perhaps his best shot to prove he is worthy of being a head coach in the NFL.
